The main design philosophy I had with this one is movie Matrix of Leadership. Since the Matrix and Unicron share a link (being the only thing that can defeat him) I wanted them to look similar.
And that ended up working well for scale purposes. He's actually very mechanical when you get close enough, but on a backed-out planetary scale he appears somewhat organic. As for design elements, I wanted him to feel very alien. Very old. Kind of bug-like. I felt a planet-sized bipedal robot just wouldn't work in the movie universe. He's got a few legs that will "accordian" out and kind of wrap around planets as much as possible. He's got a couple elements designed to reference his G1 look, including the "mouth", the horns and wings. |
